Our Story
In 2016 , my husband John and I decided we wanted a different lifestyle for our two boys. Neither of us had experience living on a farm or raising livestock but believed in teaching our kids the value of working with the land, sustainable living and a strong sense of community. We bought a piece of property in Dallas, Oregon and began our journey into owing and caring for livestock. What started out as a couple goats and two hogs for a fair project for my oldest son Chase, turned into a way of life that we have grown to love. We enjoyed raising the pigs so much that we decided to raise one to breed for our own fair pigs. That first farrowing experience was a cold and long one, but we were rewarded with 8 beautiful little piglets. I will never forget the anxiety I felt that winter day in February 2019 when we farrowed Mia our first mama. We had some incredible friends who helped walk us through the process and answered our one thousand questions about what to do next. We were hooked from that point forward and it really stared our journey to today.
I am sure that we could have found livestock that were much easier to care for and raise, but we found we were hooked on pigs. We love everything about them. Their squeals, personalities, and how smart they are. So, we started researching how to Artificially Inseminate (AI) a sow. That lead us to learning how to look up the genetic line for a sow and boar sire and the traits that the industry is looking for in show pigs. We decided to buy another gilt named Blue Moon from a reputable breeder in our state and had our second litter of piglets in 2020. Since then, we have had many litters in both the winter and summer. We have branched out into breeding quality show and meat pigs for our local FFA/4H youth and families wanting to raise their own pork. It’s not easy raising swine, but the rewards that come when one of your gilts/barrows takes Grand Champion at the fair or you have a family come back for repeat business because they appreciate the quality of your product makes all the difficult times worth it.
